AUCKLAND (Sachin Sharma): As many as 41 cases of COVID - 19 were recorded in Victoria state of Australia overnight, including 15 cases of community transmission, taking total number of cases in the state 1,987.
In as many as 19 cases of infection health authorities don't know the source of infection while eight cases are linked to known outbreaks and one was detected in hotel quarantine.
Of the cases linked to known outbreaks, three are linked to a family in North Melbourne. As many as thirteen cases have been detected through routine testing.
An emergency alert has been sent to people in Keilor Downs and Broadmeadows to tell them how to get tested, said deputy Chief Health Officer Dr. Annaliese van Diemen.
"It was not necessary to make testing for people in hotel quarantine compulsory," said Dr. van Diemen.
She said a lack of testing was not the reason "cases and outbreaks" of the virus had stemmed from some hotels being used to house returned travellers.
