AUCKLAND (Sachin Sharma): A Bhangra and Gidha workshop in Papatoetoe this Sunday turned into an extravaganza where dance experts and trainee kids enthralled people with their performances.
The workshop was organized by Gurpreet Saini in his Punjabi Heritage Dance Academy, Auckland, which runs in the building of Women Care Trust, Papatoetoe, and hub of Punjabi People. They train kids in Bhangra and Gidha.
Several Punjabi folk artists, including Bhangra experts “Ajitpal Singh Cheema, Paramjit Singh and Jatinder Singh” gave trainee kids lessons in Bhangra. They also enthralled people with their performance. Trained kids too performed in front of their parents and experts.
Saini was a Bhangra expert in Punjab. He had been performing at national level events and in universities with other Bhangra experts.
For job, he initially migrated to Australia and then to New Zealand. It’s been human nature that one remains connected to his culture wherever he or she goes, and tries to spread it among the people. Same was with Gurpreet Saini, who along with his wife Reet Sandhu, set up the Punjabi Heritage Dance Academy, Auckland, to train the kids in Bhangra. In the Sunday workshop, Bikramjit Singh Matran, Sharan Singh, Harmik Singh and others from media were also present.
