The events of Sikh Children’s Day will be held on December 26 – 27.
A meeting of Supreme Sikh Society, New Zealand that organises the event, held under leadership of its president Ranbir Singh Lali and general secretary Rajinder Singh Jindi decided to hold the event during the Christmas holidays.
Society’s spokesperson Daljit Singh said that decision has been taken keeping in view the Christmas holidays and people not going abroad during Christmas holidays due to COVID – 19.
The celebration of Sikh Children’s Day was initiated by Supreme Sikh Society a decade ago to reconnect Sikh children in New Zealand with their culture, faith and way of life as espoused by their forefathers.
The event included several completions including indoor and outdoor activities religious recitals (reciting Gurbani, kirtan), gatka, dastar-bandi, poetry, speech, Sikh art display, essay writing and painting competition etc and many other physical activities.
The event is usually celebrated in the month of October but has been delayed this year due to COVID – 19. Punjabis in New Zealand wait eagerly for the event every year as it also provides the opportunity to meet people.
Daljit Singh said with this children will get more time to prepare for the competitions and will ensure proper utilisations of holidays. Supreme Sikh Society will soon start registration of children for the events and posters of programmes will be released.
