From December onwards migrant workers, student and visitor visa holder to get jobseeker support scheme benefits - NZ Punjabi News

AUCKLAND (NZ Punjabi News Service):  New Zealand government would extend emergency benefits to temporary visa holders at the same rate as the main unemployment benefit.

Migrant workers who have lost their jobs because of COVID – 19 pandemic, student and visitor visa holders who are facing financial hardship and can't get home, will be able to get an emergency benefit for a limited time. However, they wouldn’t get extra support like accommodation supplement or food grants.

Usually, the support provided by Ministry of Social Development is given only to those who are New Zealand citizens or residents. The benefit will be extended at the same rate as jobseekers support.
An eligible person will get $251 a week, people with a partner and children will get $428 a week, while sole parents will get $375 a week.

The applicants will also need to show they are looking for work, or other ways to support themselves, and are looking at options to get home.
